Origano Selvatico Siciliano di Montagnareale

🌿 An aromatic treasure of the Nebrodi

L'wild oregano of Montagnareale, a small village located in the Nebrodi mountains in the province of Messina, is one of Sicily's most prized aromatic delicacies. It grows wild between 500 and 900 metres above sea level, in hilly and mountainous terrain exposed to the sun and caressed by the Tyrrhenian breeze. These natural conditions, combined with the local peasant tradition, give oregano an intense, penetrating and persistent perfumewith a unique and strong aromatic taste.

🌱 Main features:

  • Botanical name: Origanum vulgare

  • Type: Wild wild oregano

  • Appearance: Hand-dried bunches upside down, greyish-green in colour and with purple flowers

  • Aroma: Intense, balsamic, with herbaceous and slightly spicy notes

  • Collection: Between June and August, exclusively by hand

  • Drying: Natural, in the shade and in well-ventilated rooms
