Description

The AVOCADO is a subtropical fruit with multiple qualitiesenergising and moisturising, it is rich in healthy fats which are useful in cell construction and help lower cholesterol. It contains a wide range of antioxidants and is a source of vitamin E, useful for slow down the process ofageing and protect against heart disease.

It has a smooth or rough skin - green to purplish, depending on variety and ripeness - that encloses a creamy pulp and a central core.

It is a tasty and nutritious food, ideal for a healthy, balanced diet, great to savour alone or as an ingredient in sweet or savoury preparations.

 

Its origins date back more than 5000 years when it was one of the main foods of the indigenous Aztecs and Mayas, who believed the fruit - called ahuacati - had aphrodisiac properties. It arrived in Europe thanks to the Spanish conquistadors who, in order to pronounce its name better, called it Aguacate

Thanks to the climatic conditions and the soil in which it is produced, the Sicilian avocado has unique qualities and characteristics: the flavour is sweet and delicate, and the flesh of the fruit is buttery and creamy.

 

For its flavour and versatilityavocados can be enjoyed on their own or as an ingredient in sweet and savoury dishes. It is one of the few fruits that, in addition to ripening on the tree, goes through a post-harvest ripening phase, a physiological process lasting between 6 and 9 days. To tell if the fruit is ripe, simply apply light pressure to the skin: if it is soft, it is ready to eat.
