The Nebrodi Black Pig is an ancient, robust breed indigenous to Sicily, reared in natural environments and preserved using traditional methods. Its wild appearance and quality meat make its cured meats among the finest in the area. Today the breed is supported by conservation and valorisation programmes, including recognition as a Slow Food Presidium.

Production and Valorisation

  • Prosciutto crudo di Suino Nero dei Nebrodi is an excellence: in 2018, OPAN's ham was awarded best ham at Vinitaly

  • Artisan production includes various specialities: salami, sausage (often with wild fennel), bacon, guanciale, capocollo, mortadella, lard and cooked ham
